Juukou B-Fighter
Insect-powered heroes defend Earth from the Jamahl Empire.
Juukou B-Fighter, a tokusatsu series from 1995, is part of Toei's Metal Hero Series. The title "B-Fighter" stands for "Beetle Fighter." The story centers on three members of the prestigious Earth Academia who battle the otherworldly Jamahl Empire. The show's action footage and props were later reused for the American adaptation *Big Bad Beetleborgs*, and it spawned a spin-off titled *B-Fighter Kabuto*.
The plot begins when insects worldwide start swarming without explanation, and other animals and plants behave strangely. Takuya Kai is sent with an Earth Academia team to investigate. On his own, he meets the insect elder Guru, who reveals that insects are preparing to fight invaders from another dimension called the Jamahl. Earth Academia creates suits of armor to help, but struggles to perfect the Bio-Machinery. Guru steps in, infusing the armor with the life force of many insects. The suits become the B-Commanders, and one chooses Takuya, while the other two bond with Daisaku Katagiri and Rei Hayama. As the B-Fighters, they use their new powers to push back the Jamahl forces.
The B-Fighters wear Bio-armor developed by Earth Academia's brightest minds and powered by insect life force. Takuya Kai, a 23-year-old entomologist at the Earth Academia Japan Branch, leads the team. He is gentle and deeply responsible. He was the first to meet Guru in the South American rainforest and the first to receive a B-Commander. As Blue Beet, his armor is modeled after a Japanese rhinoceros beetle. His blood was used to create an evil duplicate named Shadow. After learning Shadow's true nature, Takuya feels responsible and disappears. Later, Blue Beet can evolve into Super Blue Beet using the command "Metal-Phose!" Daisaku Katagiri, also 23, is impulsive and loves nature. A tree doctor who claims he can hear dying plants, he was captured by the Jamahl alongside Rei at the start of the invasion. Once he got his B-Commander, he quickly defeated Jamar soldiers. He had a fear of water until he overcame it to save his fisherman father, Daitetsu, from a trap set by Ebikaania. As G-Stag, his armor is based on a stag beetle, and he is strong enough to toss Jamar soldiers around. Reddle is the third B-Fighter, a title used by two people.
