Genesis Climber MOSPEADA
A 25-episode anime series adapted as Robotech's third generation.
Genesis Climber MOSPEADA is a science-fiction anime from Tatsunoko Production. It ran for 25 episodes in Japan from late 1983 to early 1984. The title MOSPEADA stands for "Military Operation Soldier Protection Emergency Aviation Dive Armor," which is one of the transformable motorcycle-armors in the show. The other main mecha is the Armo-Fighter AFC-01 Legioss, a fighter that can shift into three forms. This series was later adapted as the third generation of the American series *Robotech*, alongside *Macross* and *Southern Cross*.
In the 21st century, Earth's pollution leads to the creation of a hydrogen fuel called HBT, while humans also colonize Mars. In 2050, an alien race called the Inbit invades Earth, leaving only small pockets of human resistance. Survivors flee to the Moon, and the Inbit set up their main base, Reflex Point, in the Great Lakes region of North America. The Mars colony sends troops from the Moon to fight back, but they fail badly. The Inbit ignore Mars and other planets, and they only attack humans if provoked. They can sense HBT, which is common in weapons, so its use is restricted. By 2080, Mars Base has become a huge military factory, producing advanced weapons and trained soldiers. It sends an expeditionary force to free Earth, but that force is nearly wiped out despite having transformable mecha.
A second expeditionary force is sent three years later but is destroyed in orbit around Earth. The only survivor is Legioss pilot Stig Barnard, who crash-lands in South America. His fiancée, Marlene, is killed in the chaos. Before the mission, she gave him a holographic recording that helps him keep going. Stig sets out to reach Reflex Point and avenge her death. Along the way, he meets the other main characters, and they form a ragtag group of freedom fighters trying to rid Earth of the Inbit. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that the Inbit invaded to find a place to evolve into more complex beings. But their actions threaten to wipe out both humans and Inbit. With help from humanoid Inbit named Aisha and Solzie, Stig and his group must convince the Inbit's hive queen, Refless, to leave Earth.
Stig Barnard (Scott Bernard in the *Robotech* adaptation) is a 20-year-old Mars Base lieutenant. After the Second Earth Recapture Force is destroyed, he becomes stranded on Earth. His fiancée Marlene is killed when her ship tries to land,
